Golf Clubs

Golf is a fantastic sport to be involved in, whether a young child or a retired pensioner, male or female, anybody can participate in golf and anybody can develop a good level of skill in the game.

Golf Clubs

Golf is highly tactical and a game which involves a good degree of judgement and skill. The judgement required is of distance the ball has to be hit, judgement in the choice of club for a shot, and judgement in how hard to swing with the club. There are many different types of golf clubs, and a golfer must know his clubs and how they work for him intimately. The more intimately a golfer knows his clubs; the much better chance there is the golfer will play with a good degree of consistency.

Most golfers will carry with them either most or some of the following clubs:

Drivers (also known as 1, 3 and 5 Woods): These clubs are used for teeing off and since tees are generally in the clear; this affords the golfer the perfect chance to hit the ball as far as possible onto the fairway of the course without obstruction. The 1 Wood is the biggest hitting club a golfer will carry.
Irons (1 to 10): These clubs are usually used on the fairway.
Pitching Wedge: This club is used for shots coming from the rough, which will require a great deal of chipping ability and rapid ascension, and are commonly used to overcome obstacles such as trees.
Sand wedge: This club is used much in the same way as a pitching wedge although it is designed to elevate the ball even more rapidly, and is used primarily for getting the ball out of bunkers.
Putter: The putter is designed not to give any height to the ball and is usually used on the green.

It will take much time to get used to you golf clubs, and it is advisable to avoid frustration that you take your golf clubs to a driving range instead to get a feel for them before trying to play proper round of golf.
